Dennis Cozzalio has another of his movie quizzes up over at Sergio Leone and the Infield Fly Rule. Here are my answers. What you can deduce about me from the answers, I know not.
1) Most obnoxious movie you’ve ever seen
Myra Breckinridge probably. Man, the stench of that movie!
2) Favorite oddball pairing of actors
Jerry Lewis and Robert De Niro in The King of Comedy
3) Which movie would you have paid to see remade by Ken Russell?
The Scarlet Empress
4) Emma Stone or Margot Robbie?
Emma Stone has some things to answer for (particularly Aloha), but she wasn't in Suicide Squad, so her, I guess.
5) Which member of Monty Python are you?
Terry Gilliam. Without a doubt.
6) Which movie would you have paid to see remade by Vincent Minnelli?
The Player
7) Franco Nero or Gian Maria Volonte?
Franco Nero. Hard to argue with that coffin.
8) Your favorite Japanese monster movie
Matango: The Attack of the Mushroom People
9) Which movie would you have paid to see remade by Stanley Kubrick?
Saving Private Ryan
10) Hanna Schygulla or Barbara Sukowa?
Hanna Schygulla
11) Name a critically admired movie that you hate
Just one? There Will Be Blood.
12) Which movie would you have paid to see remade by Elia Kazan?
Quiz Show
13) Better or worse: Disney comedies (1955-1975) or Elvis musicals?
Oh, Elvis musicals are the worst.
14) Which movie would you have paid to see remade by Alfred Hitchcock?
Red Dragon
15) Ryan Gosling or Channing Tatum?
Channing Tatum can dance, so there you go.
16) Bad performance in a movie you otherwise like/love
Everyone who isn't Lugosi or Edward Vam Sloan in Dracula.
17) Which movie would you have paid to see remade by Howard Hawks?
The Professionals
18) Tippi Hedren or Kim Novak?
Kim Novak
19) Best crime movie remake
Since The Maltese Falcon is the category killer here, let's go with The Deep End (the remake of The Reckless Moment).
20) Which movie would you have paid to see remade by Preston Sturges?
Outrageous Fortune maybe. I'm not a Sturges fan, so my honest answer is "I wouldn't pay to see a film by Preston Sturges."
21) West Side Story (the movie), yes or no?
Meh. It's okay. Not a favorite by any means.
22) Which movie would you have paid to see remade by Luchino Visconti?
The honest answer here is either Raging Bull or The Godfather, but Visconti already made that film with Rocco and His Brothers, so, I dunno. The Ruling Class, maybe?
23) What was the last movie you saw, theatrically and/or on DVD/Blu-ray/streaming?
Justice League on the big screen (The Florida Project the day before). The Vanishing (Spoorloos) on blu.
24) Brewster McCloud or O.C. and Stiggs?
Brewster McCloud, I guess. I don't really like either of them.
25) Which movie would you have paid to see remade by Luis Bunuel?
Quills
26) Best nature-in-revolt movie
Phase IV, maybe?
27) Best Rene Auberjoinois performance (film or TV)
Odo on Deep Space Nine.
28) Which movie would you have paid to see remade by Ingmar Bergman?
The Masque of the Red Death
29) Best movie with a bird or referencing a bird in its title?
To Kill a Mockingbird is the obvious answer, but let's go with The Bird with the Crystal Plumage.
30) Burt Lancaster or Michael Keaton?
Lancaster.
31) In what way have the recent avalanche of allegations unearthed in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal changed the way you look at movies and the artists who make them?
I haven't given it much thought, really, but I also haven't watched very much that bears the association since the scandal broke. For future reference.
32) In 2017 which is “better,” TV or the movies?
The need to pad the length of serial television is starting to become a real problem for the shows of this new "golden age", so I think it's a wash. And what to do about "movies" that debut on television, like Dee Reese's Mudbound to name one example? Again, I think it's a wash and probably a false dichotomy.
