I was invited on to my friend Aaron's Horror 101 pocast again to talk about one of my very favorite films. How favorite? I named myself after a character in it. I've written about it on multiple occasions, and I've reproduced the essay I wrote about it for the old Muriel awards a few years ago below the jump.

The Krell Laboratories Podcast: The Movies and Mr. King
I had a long conversation with besties, Anna Maurya and Jenni Shwaner, about this year's crop of Stephen King adaptations, including The Monkey (2025), The Life of Chuck, The Long Walk, and The Running Man (2025). We also discuss the recent anthology of stories set in the universe of The Stand, The End of the World As We Know It. We are all long-time "constant readers," as King would have us, but we're not entirely uncritical. Join us, won't you?
Anna is also on this week's Horror 101 episode talking about Cannibal Holocaust. Like Chuck in The Life of Chuck we contain multitudes.

Looking Back at Peeping Tom at Horror 101
I was invited to the panel at Horror 101 with Dr. AC again to talk about one of my very favorite horror movies, Michael Powell's Peeping Tom. I haven't ever written about Peeping Tom, but now I kinda want to. My friend, Lee Price, is on the panel, too, and he has written a marvelous piece about the film at Wonders in the Dark.

Revisiting Dead Of Night at Horror 101
I was invited back to Dr. AC's Horror 101 podcast to talk about Dead of Night (1945). It's a film I wrote about for his book, Horror 101, many years ago. I've added that review, slightly revised, below.

The Krell Laboratories Podcast: Rita (2024) and The Devil's Bath (2024)
My irregular podcast returns with conversations with friends of the blog, Kevin Matthews and Anna Maurya about two historical international horror movies from last year, Rita (2024, directed by Jayro Bustamente) and The Devil's Bath (2024, directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala). Among the best horror movies of the last few years, sez I.

Horror 101: The Psycho Legacy and the Politics of Images
I was on Dr. AC's podcast again this week, talking about Psycho (1960) and its progeny. I had a particular ax to grind with the politics of the film's images, but the conversation ranged all over. I am particularly fond of Psycho III among the sequels, and do not hate the remake, even if it is pointless.
Enjoy.

Revisiting Horror 101 with Dr. AC: The Brood
My friend, Aaron Christensen, invited me back on his video podcast to talk about one the horror movies that made the biggest impact on the young version of me: David Cronenberg's 1979 film, The Brood.
Enjoy.

Scare-a-Thon with DR. AC: Crimes of the Future
Here's another roundtable discussion with my friend and former erstwhile editor, Dr. AC about one of my favorite filmmakers. I need to turn up the volume on my microphone next time. Anyway, I'm the smurfette here...
I've got a couple of these coming this month, so enjoy.

The Quatermass Legacy
I sat in on this vodcast (is that even a word?) celebrating the 70th anniversary of the original broadcast of The Quatermass Experiment. Please pardon my nervous energy. I have a fear of speaking in public.

Shameless Self-promotion: Dreams in the Bitch House edition
I don't talk about it much here, but I'm part of the brain trust at Dreams in the Bitch House. I'm normally responsible for recording and editing the podcast. The podcast kind of got derailed a couple of years ago when one of our collaborators died. It kind of shocked us out of doing it. This year, I had the opportunity to sit in the same room with a couple of the other women who contribute to the site and record a podcast with us all around the same table. It was awesome, and I hope to do it again. Meanwhile, the result is an hour and a half of four movie fans pouring out our love of horror movies, Halloween, and really, each other. Check it out at the Dreams in the Bitch House site.

The Krell Labs Podcast! Episode 1: Interview with a Queer Pornographer
This is a new experiment here at Stately Krell Labs. It's a podcast! The first episode interviews transgender activist and feminist pornographer Tobi Hill-Meyer, who makes and distributes sex-positive, trans-positive feminist porn through her company, Handbasket Productions. She's also a frequent contributor to the GLBT blog, The Bilerico Project. In the interview, we talk about the conventions of porn, especially as it relates to the trans and feminist communities and we talk about the practical elements of DIY filmmaking.
Hopefully, I'll make more of these. So without further ado, on with the show:
