It's full of ideas without being too full of itself. Performances like Daniels as the boss anchor the film in a non-showy grit. Might Daniels be, quietly, one of the best character actors ever?

I loved that scene in the cafe when Willis puts Gordon-Levitt in his place - "Shut your baby mouth!" Every now and then, Willis can deliver. Who hasn't wanted to say that to their younger self? I'm not going to disagree with you...Hi, Brian,

I'm not going to disagree with you, because, as I've said, if you start thinking too hard about this film, it starts to unravel. I do think that the idea that Cid won't grow up to be The Rainmaker is of a piece with the way this presents branching choices, though, so it's got a thematic justification even if its credibility is suspect. That seems to be the theme here, incarnated in the person of Cid, a child who could go either way."

Maybe I'm cynical, but what didn't work for me was the thought that Cid could somehow go the "right way" if he just had the right love at the right time, blah blah blah. Call me old fashioned, but absolute power corrupts absolutely. I don't care if you had great life as a kid or a terrible one-- you have that much power as an adult, you're going to abuse it. Your review really has thrusted it up the ladder of the "must see list". It sounds really cool. Most people are just bewildered by it and would like to converse with me about it. Sounds like a heady trip. Talking about time travel, I imagine most of these movies would be like a house of cards if the details were dwelt on for any length of time. I make sure to watch this soon.crowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04669900632326853467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18814440.post-30225791649268653862013-01-30T08:39:03.837-08:002013-01-30T08:39:03.837-08:00Pretty much completely agree with you here, Christ...Pretty much completely agree with you here, Christianne. It's a great film full of great ideas but once those end credits roll and you stop to think about everything, a number of glaring flaws stand out. The fact that you don't think about them while the film is playing is testament to how smart and entertaining it is IMO.Tylerandjackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07728309372305602972noreply@blogger.com
