This is a great edition, including Agee on Film (complete text)as well as some great writing he did for Time (as well as the screenplay for Night of the Hunter!!). I can't recommend a volume more. You really, really should treat yourself. Who deserves it more than you?Mykal Bantahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12148489896145024134noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18814440.post-67684390360373537052011-08-08T06:23:06.260-07:002011-08-08T06:23:06.260-07:00Hi, Lauren. Still, it's good food for blogging (oh, and you have a ROCKING blog, by the way).

Hi, Becky

I kinda love Airport '75, mainly because it's SO typical of that type of movie. Plus, it's the first one of those movies I actually saw. on the late late show. I don't think I've ever actually seen all of the original Airport.

Oh, and I was watching the trailer for the new steampunk Three Musketeers a couple of days ago watching Mila Jovavich doing frigging cartwheels in a period corset. *Facepalm*

Mykal: Let Us Now Praise Famous Men is one of my very favorite books in the entire world. I remember reading it in college and being so devastated by it that I couldn't even discuss it for class. I regret choosing not to buy Agee on Film when I had the chance, but, hell, my library has it so what the heck.Vulnavia Morbiushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04722740955194993451noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18814440.post-55998333823971377832011-08-08T05:36:10.788-07:002011-08-08T05:36:10.788-07:00I totally understand wanting to watch something un...I totally understand wanting to watch something uncomplicated! Thanks for saving me from this one, though. Thankfully, I don't think the husband had much interest in it when it came out, so he probably won't want to see it now.

I almost always end up watching something I've seen before--or a romantic comedy on Netflix instant that I sometimes finish! Most of the time, I have to stop part of the way through because I'm afraid my brains are going to leak out of my ears...Lauren Hairstonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18037717621464819611noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18814440.post-59592855336551103552011-08-07T14:57:03.001-07:002011-08-07T14:57:03.001-07:00I do the same thing you are doing all the time -- ...I do the same thing you are doing all the time -- I have also been in pain and on drugs for it many times, and I walways watch the weirdest things I would normally NEVER care about at all! Your assessment of the movie is really fun, and I love what you said about screenwriters never having actually worn a corset and heels! so true!

I'm trying to remember one of the movies I've watched that later I couldn't believe I had devoted 2 hours of my life to -- I think one of them was an Airport move (remember those?) The firsts one was good, but the sequels were pretty stinko. I'm sure it was Airport 75, showing on TV one night after I had back surgery. The one with Charlton Heston and Karen Black as the crazy-eyed stewardess flying the plane. Kind of fun, but pretty damn bad.

I want to check on something, and be right back. I still think it's hilarious that I liked your comment on Brandie's site so much, not realizing who you were!ClassicBeckyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03591715859057540467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18814440.post-90639857698780473472011-08-07T09:27:47.169-07:002011-08-07T09:27:47.169-07:00Vulnavia: James Agee's Let Us Now Praise Famou...Vulnavia: James Agee's Let Us Now Praise Famous Men,, eh? Me too. All the way. One of my earliest writing heroes. Moral poetry. I love it when I hear of people reading this book.

I love action films, even ones (especially ones) that are long on showy muscle, yet I steered clear of Joe. It just screamed "no" to me. It just had the smell of middle-of the-road boring all about it. By your description, it seems worse than I feared.Mykal Bantahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12148489896145024134noreply@blogger.com
